La Vie En Rose

googlehttps://plus.google.com/u/0/114005940946674524673 twitter instagram

Oh. My. Gosh. Where to begin? I haven't posted on my blog for roughly one month. I also haven't shared about my stories in my new school and life updates as a high schooler in Japan. Oh well, let's save that for later. For now, I am actually on vacay in my home sweet home, THE PHILIPPINES. How I missed the PH sooo much. I arrived here last July 23 and since then, life couldn't get any better. I have met most of my friends, went to myriad of outings every day until I dropped, had countless pictures taken and yes, I am also vlogging this trip. Look forward to it! 😉

Going back to the Philippines made me realize so many things that I wasn't able to notice back when I was in Japan. I never knew that I had so much character when I speak in Tagalog and in English as opposed to speaking in Japanese. This only tells me that I'm more comfortable speaking these languages for I'm more familiar with them. I still do struggle with vocabularies in Japanese, and so I'm aware that I do have to study more. But while I'm here in the PH, I'd like to spend most of my time to rediscover more of myself, spend more time with my family and friends, and to also be more mindful and present of where I'm in right now.

I also couldn't help but to think about the requirements, projects, presentations, and dance performance that I have due the following two weeks. 😭 But nah, I can do this! I just have to properly manage my time.

And yes, I have had my birthday last week and we're going to celebrate it tomorrow with our closest friends. I'll update you more about it soon! See ya!
PS, this is my last year in my 10's. I'll be entering my 20's next year omg. Gotta enjoy it 🎇

'till my next blogpost!

Take care,

This is such an overdue vlog that I intended to upload in April. It took me sooo long before I was able to finally put it out. I also tried doing a voice over in the beginning of this video, and my gosh, I made a realization that this kind of thing takes so much effort and time. It took me a couple of minutes just recording that lol. But anyway, I hope you'll enjoy watching this vid! I'll be going to the Philippines this July during my summer vacation and so please expect for more pics and vlogs coming up soon!

'till my next blogpost!

Do you notice how life is a series of ups and downs, that's balanced by God? There are times when you're at your best and you feel like you've got the best of both worlds and yet there will also be those days when you feel incredibly blue, uninspired, unmotivated and feel crappy overall. All these experiences are typical for people. For some, they get swallowed by their uncontrollable emotions and feel like it's the end of the world when in fact, it really isn't. While for other people, they do something about it. They scrutinize their plans, establish goals and destress when they can. LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT. You can either annihilate yourself or find ways to cope with it and not run away from it.

Here are my tips on how you can feel better during your bad days.

#1 Do a cardiovascular exercise or go out for a walk 🚶🏻‍♀️

It is scientifically proven that when you exercise, you release these chemicals, called dopamine and endorphins that play a huge part in keeping you happy. It also has a lot of benefits such as an increase in your self-esteem, less stress, better sleep, and many more. I myself, feel better when I exercise than lying down in my bed like a potato that I am. Well, maybe we can all be a shmexier potato if we exercise. 😉 Try it and undoubtedly you'll instantly feel better! 🤗

"If I could give one tip for people - it's not an exercise or nutrition regimen. It's to walk your talk and believe in yourself, because at the end of the day, the dumbbell and diet don't get you in shape. It's your accountability to your word." - Brett Hoebel

#2 Do any of your hobby that makes you feel good about yourself 🧚‍♀️
All of us have a hobby that we do from day to day basis or at least for periodically. Whether that's stalking your crush, arguing with people on the internet (wait, don't do this, please lol), collecting stones, talking to your invisible ghost friend (calling my friend Casper), or just finishing a can of coke in 1 minute (what a lame joke right ok ok). Just do whatever that makes you feel good without hurting anyone even yourself. So yes, you can drop whatever you're doing for a while. Take a rest from whatever work that you're doing. Once you feel better, that's the time that you can go back and do some hustling.

"Lighten up, just enjoy life, smile more, laugh more, and don't get so worked up about things." - Kenneth Branagh

#3 Try meditation or buy a scented candle/essential oils 🧘

I always have a knack of hopping on the bandwagon of trends only when I feel like doing it and meditation and aromatherapy are one of them. Jenn Im introduced Headspace as a good meditation mobile app in one of her monthly favorites videos. I gave it a go and I must say that I'm addicted to it. My day never feels the same without meditating as what I have explained in one of my blog posts. It just improves me both in mental and emotional ways. Much like wearing my pajamas in a cozy staycation. As for essential oil, I highly recommend the brand called now essential oils that's available on iHerb.com. I recently bought the lavender flavor. Since it's 100% pure lavender, it smells very concentrated. Thus, you only need a few drops no matter how huge your air diffuser is. I learned from my mistake and I don't want you to do the same thing. I actually poured 5 drops of the lavender essential oil, thinking that 3 drops aren't enough. The night later, it started to smell funny. Very much comparable with a basahan [dirty cleaning rag]. So my friends, just add enough drops of essential oils. Btw, the reason for why I didn't opt for scented candles is that I'm scared of burning my house. It feels like I have to bear with such a tremendous responsibility. And I don't like that.

Life is a mystery – mystery of beauty, bliss and divinity. Meditation is the art of unfolding that mystery. – Amit Ray

#4 Vent out your stress to your closest friends/best friends 👯‍♀️

Believe me, nothing feels better than letting all your worries and troubles out to a friend whom you trust. You have a support system for a reason. They may be your family, friends, teachers and the like. You don't have to keep your stress all to yourself. Sometimes, it's better to express yourself to your friends and they will be there to listen. In my case, I'm just super blessed and contented to have my small group of friends. They undeniably give the best advice that I could ever ask for. And I'm so grateful to have them. 🌟

One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood. - Lucius Annaeus Seneca

I'm sure that at one point in our lives, we have fair shares of rejection stories that we may be embarrassed to share them to the whole world. Some stories are better to be kept on your own, but tonight, I decided to share my rejection stories to you. I used to feel twitchy about being rejected by people, I even get rejected by fate sometimes. There's this one time when I was rushing to get in the elevator because I had to come home quickly to do my school works and then suddenly, the world decided to shut its doors and leave me hanging on that floor. That my friend, is a simple rejection. Another story of a simple rejection that I had is when I messaged my first ever crush. Back in my vacation in the UK, I was talking to my cousin about how I badly want to message him. I was dubious at first on whether or not I should pm him because we haven't had any convo ever since I visited his house when I had my summer vacay in Japan. My cousin told me that it's better to do it than not having to do it at all. She said that having regrets are far worse than not trying anything. So I braved myself out. I messaged him. I always wonder on why I like putting myself in a situation that's very uncomfortable that may turn into a cringe-y experience later on. Well, it's good to be an asinine at times, right? Please agree with me 😅. Ok, so this is what I typed "Hi, do you remember me? I used to be your classmate in grade 1." (Cue my inner monologue) OH. MY. GOSH. I DON'T EVEN KNOW ON WHY THE HECK I DID THAT. SOMEONE, PLS SAVE ME FROM THIS EMBARASSMENT. And then *BOOM* I was seen zoned for no apparent reason. WHY!? I messaged him with my clear intention to just be friends with him. And yet I can't believe that I was rejected. He could've just said a simple hello or an effortless message that always flows out a conversation like how are you doing? These are the things that I thought back then. After 2 years of that incident, the 18 year old Yurika finally realized on why things didn't happen as she expected them to be. (Ok, back to first person pronoun) It's just simply because it was not my destiny to reconnect with him. Wow, that sounded quite serious and deep. Am I adulting? Well, I should be. I honestly didn't regret what I've done there. In fact, this leads to my another rejection story which happens to be similar to what occurred from my first crush story. I messaged this guy that I think (from my recollections) I'm getting close with. Is it creepy to tell him that I want to get to know him better? I meant as friends though. As I've moved here in Japan, I've been dying to make friends. I can't be a loner huhu. I hope he didn't think otherwise on which he probably did because I never got a reply back. Things just got awkward even when I meet him in person. But hey, I tried to be friendly even if I have an INFJ-personality type. I never learn that guys in Japan are soooo freaking torpe (is a Tagalog word for guys who can't approach their crush because they're timid). Like bakit [why] ??? Ladies and gentlemen, I still won't give up in initiating a conversation 'cause I'm brave like that and mapakal muks [thick skinned]. I have to be, or else how am I going to make friends and connections? I can't be alone for forever. No opportunities will come up if I just sit and wait for what? For nothing, because opportunities don't knock on your door if you just stare blankly and not act on anything. I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and just do it! I'm sure that you'll always learn a lesson no matter how your experience will turn out.

You see, rejections are something that's painful at first. It gets easier later on because you learned your lessons from them and you just let them go. We often just laugh about them because we've been through them. It's done. It's a past event that we cannot go back anymore. Things happen for a reason. You can't be a human if you haven't experienced rejections. It's part of life and I think that's what makes life even more beautiful.

#1 How you treat others reflect on how you treat yourself

Do you notice on how people are usually harsh on themselves? That's how they are too when it comes to dealing with other people. If you're very critical of yourself, chances are high that you are critical or judgmental of other people too. That's why self love plays an important role in shaping who you are as a person. You have to acknowledge the fact that even if you have flaws and imperfections, you're perfectly fine as who you are. You have to love yourself in order to be able to take care of the people around you.

#2 Self care and self love lead to genuine happiness

Taking care of yourself before taking care of others may be seen as a selfish act at first, but there's nothing wrong with prioritizing yourself. Do something that makes you feel good. Pamper yourself every once in a while. Choose to love yourself and take care of yourself even more because really, the only reason that I can think of is that you NEED it and that you DESERVE it. Don't feel bad about resting or relaxing from time to time. You're a human too, you can't just work and hustle for 24/7. That'd be ludicrous. We're not made like robots. We need breaks too.

"Self care is important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel." - Eleanor Brown

#3 Learn how to listen to your heart and mind; drop it if it gets toxic

Being mindful of how you really feel in your heart and mind is also a helpful guide to love yourself even more efficiently. However, let us be cautious if our thoughts will swallow us as a whole. Meaning, you should let go of your negative thoughts like how you get rid of your toxic and unhealthy relationships with people. Learn to be wise at all times. That's your best weapon that you can carry around everywhere at any time. Slay it!

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye." - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

#4 You get to learn how to practice gratitude and appreciation

It's not a secret that true happiness lead to living a longer healthier life. So how do the successful people do it? The answer is to practice gratitude and appreciation EVERY DAY. After you wake up first thing in the morning, be grateful that you're given another day and another chance to better yourself. After finishing the day, give appreciation that you were able to spend the day fruitfully. Gratitude and appreciation help people to become more optimistic. It builds better relationships with people. For me, seeing people who are genuinely happy make me feel happy too. It's somehow contagious and I like it. Before I know it, I'm already spreading good vibes, too.

#5 You get to know yourself at a deeper level #MOREselfknowledge

Get a piece of paper and write out the list of things that you've been wanting to do for the longest time. Be realistic and set goals. Throughout doing that process, you'll realize that you start to re-connect and know your true self even better. Having more self knowledge leads to clarity in your mind. Don't be afraid to do things that you haven't done before. Don't also consider about the negative opinions of others. For instance, if you've been wanting to keep a drawing journal, you're free to do so. Don't mind those people who tell you that you suck at it and that you'll never improve no matter how much you practice. Just believe in yourself that you can do it. Because humans can do everything that they set their minds into. You can also do the things that you've been curious about. You'll never know that this may be the opportunity where you'll find new discoveries and your passion in life. Go and explore new things!

“There had been a time when I owned my life and now I felt like I was coming around to myself again. It's like I've finally discovered bones in myself I never knew I had. I discovered that it takes bravery to be one's self. I now know that the only thing I needed to be afraid of was of not finding my true self and having the courage to be me.”  - Benilde Little

I always wonder about how it is always easier to break a habit than building a new one. Who else agrees? I bet most of you concur with me. In my midst of preparing for my entrance exam, I felt stressed at one point. In fact, VERY STRESSED. I started to listen to a motivational video that helped me quite a lot. I recommend you to watch this video of Team Fearless if you ever feel like giving up on whatever you're doing.

Ok, before I digress any further, here are the new habits that have massively helped me emotionally.

#1 Listening to a podcast as I do my skincare in the morning 🎧 + while doing my strength training 🏋🏻‍♀️

My morning routine will never be complete without listening to Jim Kwik's podcast. According from him, his podcast is mainly about supercharging your brain on how you can improve your memorizing and thinking skills, reading at a faster pace while retaining the information you read, boosting reading comprehension and many more. Overall, his podcast is not just the quintessential podcast that you think of. It's more of a coaching session with the host, Jim Kwik that will definitely bolster your brain performance. The duration of his podcast is usually short for his target audience is the busy people. Therefore, you can quickly learn all these hacks, tips and tricks, and lessons in less than 20 minutes. Perfect for people who are always on the go. Plus, he invites valuable guest speakers who are profoundly known in their specific fields.

Whenever I exercise, I always make it to a point to tune into Lavendaire's podcast. I specifically enjoy the novelty of listening to her stories and her realizations in life. Like Jim Kwik's podcast, she also invites guest speakers, but personally, I like her podcasts better when she's doing it alone rather than inviting them. At first, the way she speaks felt very scripted and unnatural, but after listening to her explanations, everything became clear on why she was like that. Apparently, she did her podcast not because of her own will but because she was forced to do so. By the middle part of the episodes, I find that she has finally relaxed and became very spontaneous. Perhaps, she already got the gist of how to do things when it comes to doing podcasts. Despite of these flaws, I totally recommend you to listen to her podcasts to help you for your self growth, motivations and inspire you to really pursue your goals and visions in life.

#2 Meditating for at least 10 to 15 minutes a day 🌿🧘

If someone comes up to me and asks me if I'm into meditating, my past self would absolutely say no. It's because I thought that meditating would not change me and that it will have no effects on me. But girl, I was wrong. It's true that you'll never know about how it will go unless you try it. Over the course of meditating for 3 weeks now, I realized that meditating is not about controlling your emotions, your stress level and the like. It's about letting go of your thoughts and focusing on your breath, as well as being present in the moment. It's especially helpful if you're mind is full of ruckus. It just basically helps you soothe your mind and be peaceful at that time.

Now, these are the apps that I recommend for meditating:

Headspace offers a free trial for those people who are interested in meditating. It's very user friendly and easy to follow. The design is also superb, making it enjoyable to use. The free packs for meditation in this app include the Basics (10 sessions), any of "everyday headspace" feature (only for 3 sessions) and every first session of any packs. In order for you to unlock the rest, you have to subscribe for monthly, annual or even for lifetime. I'd honestly continue to use this app if it was for free, but I had to drop it because the pricing is too expensive for me. It's just not reasonable for us students.

But do not fret, there is another app that works just as fine as HEADSPACE. It's called the 1 Giant Mind.

In this app, the speaker or the host for the meditation doesn't blab as much. It mainly tells you all the instructions in the beginning and ends it with a chime. So, you do get to meditate more silently and easily feel tranquil in no time. It also introduces mantras that are very helpful in meditating especially if you're a neophyte. After the meditation, you can watch free videos to help you more with meditating effectively. It also comes with a daily diary/review every after the sessions. I'd say that this app feels more organized than the Headspace app *coughs* and it's free 😛

#3 Learning 10 new vocabularies a day both in Japanese and in English

Expanding your vocabularies is always a good idea to do, especially if you want to be more eloquent in that certain language. There's something magical about being able to express how you feel using the new words that you learned. It makes you feel proud of yourself that you actually use the vocabs and retain it even after a long time, unlike when you memorize technical terms, it's easier for you to forget it like you never reviewed it before. In short, it feels rewarding to use what you've learned right off the bat.
